Of Note...Rules Changes In Basketball, Wrestling

The NCAA News reports today on approved rules changes for next season in both men's basketball and wrestling.

In men's hoops, the most significant change comes in rules regarding charges around the rim. A secondary defender must now establish position outside the area from in front of the rim to in front of the backboard to draw a charge call. In other words, players now have the green light to run you over underneath the rim without penalty. Other changes include who can shoot free throws when a fouled player must leave the game due to injury and the use of replay to determine if a foul was flagrant (this will have little effect in DIII).

In wrestling, the referee must now say "set" to the defensive wrestler in the down position before the offensive wrestler comes set. In the past, all that was needed was a pause. Other changes were made to the overtime rules to make them yet even more confusing.
